Does YouTube promotion need my channel password?

Last updated 3 October 2026

No. An ad campaign needs the public link to the video, Short or channel being promoted, and nothing else. No password, no manager access, no login. Any service asking for account access is asking for something advertising does not require.

Why the link is enough

The advertiser runs the campaign from their own Google Ads account and points it at your public URL. YouTube serves the ad to viewers; your channel is the destination, not part of the plumbing. Nothing in that chain touches your account.

What account access would allow

Manager access lets someone change monetisation settings, delete videos, alter your channel details and add further managers. There is no promotion task that needs any of it, which is why the request itself is the warning.
