How long does a YouTube campaign take to start?
Last updated 3 October 2026
Most campaigns go live within a few hours of payment clearing. Delivery is then paced across the week rather than dumped in one day, because an ad auction buys attention continuously and a sudden burst costs more per view for worse viewers.
What happens before it runs
The video is checked against Google Ads policy. Videos that are age-restricted, carry disputed claims or breach advertising policy can be rejected, which is the usual cause of a delay beyond a few hours.
When the data is worth reading
Day one tells you almost nothing: the auction is still learning who responds. By day three the retention curve is stable enough to judge, and by the end of the first week the audience breakdown is worth acting on. Changing targeting before then usually resets the learning rather than improving it.
