What are in-feed ads on YouTube?

Last updated 3 October 2026

An in-feed ad appears as a thumbnail and title beside YouTube search results, on the home feed, or next to a video someone is already watching. Nothing plays until the viewer clicks, and the advertiser pays for that click. It is the format that reaches people who are already looking for something like your video.

What it suits

Tutorials, reviews, comparisons — anything with a searchable title. The thumbnail and title do all the work, which makes in-feed unusually sensitive to how good those two things are.

Expect fewer views for the same budget than in-stream, and better retention on each one, because every viewer chose to be there.
