What is the YouTube Partner Programme (YPP)?

Last updated 3 October 2026

YPP is the YouTube Partner Programme, the scheme a channel joins to earn money from its videos. The main route in requires 1,000 subscribers plus either 4,000 public watch hours in the past 12 months or 10 million valid Shorts views in the past 90 days.

What it unlocks

Ad revenue is the headline, but membership of the programme also opens channel memberships, Super Thanks and Super Chat, shopping features, and a share of YouTube Premium revenue from subscribers who watch your videos.

What it does not promise

Joining does not set what you earn. That depends on viewer country, video length, topic and how much of your watch time comes from Shorts. Two channels at the same subscriber count routinely earn several times apart. Check YouTube's own eligibility page before you plan around any threshold — they move.
